A wheelie good way to cool off

Moranbah BMX Club was pumped to have been awarded a community grant from Stanmore Resources for $1,500 to purchase much-needed shade covers for the club’s gazebos.
The existing shade covers the club was using were not only old and tattered, but were unable to provide sufficient UV protection for the club’s riders and their families.
Moranbah BMX Club Grants Officer Angela Elliott said the covers will be used all year round with BMX competitions running throughout the year.
“BMX doesn’t have an off-season — we have riders competing all the time and across the state in different weather conditions. The shades will travel with our riders and allow us to provide them with some sun protection,” she said.
“Most recently, the new covers travelled to the Queensland State Championships in Ipswich during late September, where the temperatures soared into the high 30s, so the shades were instrumental in keeping riders cool in between their races.”
The club is home to 85 registered members, with riders aged from as young as three years old to more experienced riders who are in their forties.
“We have such a diverse range of ages and levels of experience when it comes to our riders, and welcome anyone in the community who wants to take up BMX riding,” Angela said. “The support Stanmore gives community clubs is pivotal in ensuring their continued success well into the future and we couldn’t be more thankful for Stanmore’s ongoing support.”
